Sex Difference in the Passive Cutaneous Anaphylaxis Induced by Ovalbumin in Mouse-rat System

Abstract
The importance of antigenicity tests has gradually been increased as various pharmaceuticals including biotechnological products have been developed. Because the information on sez difference in antigenicity tests has been very limited, particularly in mice, sea difference in ovalbumin-induced passive cutaneous anaphylaxis was investigated in the present studies. Castrated male and ovariectomized female mice were used as responder animals to ovalbumin. From the studies, the following results were obtained. Neither mortality nor general symptoms were observed in mice during the period of sensitization. In the castrated male mice, the body weight gain was reduced from 2 weeks after the initiation of intraperitoneal sensitization with ovaibumin. In the passive cutaneous anaphylaxis test, the positive reaction in castrated and ovarieetomized mice were¡¿100 to¡¿800 and¡¿100 to¡¿300, respectively. In sham-operated animals of male and female, the antibody titers were¡¿100 to¡¿400 and¡¿100 to¡¿500, respectively. According to the present results, a weak but clear sex difference was observed in ovalbumin-induced passive cutaneous anaphylaxis in the mouse-rat system.
